Fire Mission!

So, the bug has bitten me, and I am running 2 sessions of RECON next week. Here is FSB: Orion, which will be the home of the Marines in the game. The players will be members of 1st Platoon Bravo Co. 1st Bn / 9th Marines (The Walking Dead). This is a quickly done map on paint. It ain't pretty but it works.

Like the new season rolling in, my ADD gamer brain has turned its attention to Vietnam or military rpg. I am currently reading Matterhorn by Karl Marlantes, a novel about Marines in Vietnam. Being a lover of military history - especially the Vietnam era (and a former Marine to boot), my brain screams at me - Run A Game About Vietnam!. So I oblige my brain for the moment and drag my old Palladium Recon & Advanced Recon out of the basement (along with a game called Ranger - which is a solo game of patrolling). 

Next, I go ahead and make a map for an AO (area of operations) with 3 firebases in a fictional map of Vietnam.

So, if the mood strikes, at least I am prepared to do something about it...

Hate Breeders

Working on new monsters for my B/X version of the Hoarfrost Halls Saga, and I take inspiration this morning from the Misfits song "Hatebreeders".

Here is the video for those not hip to my old school punk sensibilities:

So Hate Breeders are born, they are poor unfortunate tribesmen that have been exposed to the rage-fungi of the northern woods. Rage consumes them and they will fight until they die.

Slumbering Ursine Dunes KS has launched...

My good friend Chris Kutalik has launched his KickStarter for his Slumbering Ursine Dunes. This is an adventure / point crawl based on his long running Hill Cantons campaign (from the blog of the same name).I am doing the layout for this book, so of course I am promoting it. : ) But it is a great adventure and worth getting, the art is fantastic and Chris is a great writer. So check it out!

Hoarfrost Saga re-imagined.

This has been posted to my Hoarfrost Saga blog, but I might as well keep my information here. This is for the new 5E game I want to run (eventually).

Here is the world of Gurgaxia - home of the Hoarfrost Halls Saga. 

My current notes about this world:

The world turns and every few thousand years the Great Cosmic Dragon returns to stomp out life and create it anew. The world of GURGAXIA exists inside the footprint of the Cosmic Dragon. It is now the 5th Age of Gurgaxia over the last 40,000 years. 

The Original Dawn of Gurgaxia
 -An age of discovery, wild lands populated by primitive societies. Little organization, chaos reigned supreme. Mad Wizards ruled and delved deep to create their lairs.

The 1st Age
 -Society advanced, and codified rules of law were set down. There were still wild pockets of Chaos and Mad Wizards.

The 2nd Age
 -Multiple world settlements occured, the culture was bland and diluted. 

The 3rd Age
 -A new age for Gurgaxia, a land rules by mighty heroes with feats of derring-do. The gates to multiple worlds were opened, and could not be closed again.

The 4th Age
 -In an effort to close off the other worlds, heroes became gods amongst men. Society was unrecognizable to those who might have lived in the earlier ages. 

The 5th Age
 -The 5th age dawns and man emerges into a world with remnants of earlier ages and worlds still trapped in Gurgaxia. 

The world turns and every few thousand years the Great Cosmic Dragon returns to stomp out life and create it anew.

Here we see part of the continent at the top of the world being assembled in map form, while the world cat naps..

Here is the map as it currently exists on 9 panels of thick card board. The upper right mountain range has a small area of "lost world", with volcano included.
